MESSAGE TO COMMUNITY
In the end, it's about the machinimas themselves. It's not about what the creator's reputation is or how many subscribers and views they have.
It's about the story it tells and the heart and passion we the creators of the community put into them. Machinima is done for many reasons. Some do it for fame, some do it because they enjoy halo or other games, and some do it because it is an opportunity like no other, to express their visions on a screen, no matter how small, for others to watch and enjoy, without the high expenses of Hollywood. The Academy knows that. We believe in that. "These are just video game movies". We understand that as well, but just because the AMA's resemble that of an award show you may have seen on TV for Hollywood or what not, the AMA's serve an almost completely different purpose. We haven't just heard your opinions, we've listened to them. We haven't just listened to them, we have addressed them over the past few months and have fixed them. One of the main things that sets us apart from contests, etc. is that we do not criticize or place machinimas. Who are we or you, to criticize the product of someone's hobby? The Academy Machinima Awards only points out, honors, commemorates, and puts achievements of others in the spotlight for one night of the year. We are here to celebrate what needs to be celebrated and give machinimas positive light again. We are here to unite the community congratulating those who have gone above and beyond, rather than tearing them down. This is not a contest. There is no "I won" or "I lost", "I placed 2nd" or "I placed 3rd". We are recognizing one of a kind talent. That is it. We are not trying to stray away from the "indie" culture that the art form of machinima has existed as. We are simply trying to better it. You might ask, who are we to come along and do this? Well see, the "we" you think we are, doesn't exist. There are only those who have created such and have layed down the stucture, and those who have existed in the community and have been there through the years who make up this academy. "You didnt ask for it"?, well the community needs it. Not to segregate and seperate like we have been doing, but to unite. All machinimas are great, as all machinimas are great to their creators.
But for those whom stand out the most, they are legendary.
This is for the writers, directors, editors, actors, and set designers. But this is also for the viewer.
The viewer, who clicked on a thumbnail, took a ride, and got lost in the stories and the art from this community of talented directors.
Without the viewer, we wouldn't be where we are now. But lately, the community is seeing less and less of those faithful viewers.
So on this night, may we congratulate, celebrate and cheer,
but may we also fall in love with machinima, all over again.

WHY THE ACADEMY?
At first glance, many people have been quick to judge the name as pretentious,
but we truly are everything but pretentious.
There are plenty of machinima filim festivals out there, but as for the immediate community that we exist in today, with SFM and all CGI machinimas aside,
3 games have dominated the immediate machinima community. With Sims, World of Warcraft, and Battlefied/COD taking a close second, Minecraft, Halo, and GTA have shown to have the largest machinima communities. There have been award shows for the immediate machinima community in the past, us being the 3rd ever to do so. Those being the Machinicast Award Show (2009-2011), the Entertainment Media Awards (2013), the Minecraft Machinima Awards (2014), and then us, the Academy Machinima Awards (known as the GSA's at the time) (2014-Present). Then the latest one has appeared, the Minecraft Machinima Awards (2015). Unlike contests, we don't have a possibly biased small group of 3 judges on a panel, and unlike other awards shows, we don't have 5 random judges or a viewer voted system. We take different directors, voice actors, and more, around the immediate community, across the individual Minecraft, Halo and GTA communities, making the ACMA (Academy of Machine Cinema & Arts) the largest body of expert judges to exist for a machinima awards show. From big to small, all still well accomplished and experienced, we don't exclude from one party to another as far as members in the academy go. And as for machinimas and production groups nominated in the AMA's, you can even see for yourself in the current 2015 nominations that we do not exclude by popularity. Numbers do not always matter. Even after carefully planned invitations, the Academy executives still check for bias, even though you are not allowed to vote in categories that you are nominated in AT ALL, or vote for an individual machinima whom you have helped with or that is from a creator whom you hold close ties with. If you still disagree with us, please, we encourage you to make a difference and try to join the academy yourself, even though we assure you it is not necessary. But if you do wish to do so, as said in the "message to the community" paragraph,
membership is acquired through invitation only. So if you think you are qualified and show expertise in the listed category criterias, please contact us at
[email protected] or through PM to the channel of whomever is hosting this year's ceremony.
